Block printing is a traditional art form that has been practiced in Jaipur for centuries. It's a labor of love, a process that requires patience, precision, and an artistic eye. At MPUI, we are proud to work with artisans who are masters of this craft.
The Carving of the Blocks
The process begins with the carving of wooden blocks. Artisans sketch intricate designs onto blocks of teak wood and then meticulously carve them by hand. A separate block is required for each color in the design, making the process highly complex.
The Printing Process
The fabric is washed and prepared, then laid out flat on a long printing table. The artisan dips the block into a natural dye and presses it firmly onto the fabric, creating a segment of the pattern. This is repeated over and over, with incredible precision, to create a seamless design. The alignment has to be perfect, and the pressure consistent.
The result is a textile that is vibrant, unique, and tells a story of its creation. Each of our Jaipuri block print cushions is a testament to this beautiful art form, a piece of Jaipur's heritage that you can bring into your home.
